Somewhere Over The Rainbow Willie Nelson
Price $ 9.97
This is one of the greatest of Willie Nelson albums. It was recorded with the legendary Freddy Powers (and
most of Powers' band). Powers is known as "The Country Jazz Singer," and his voice pushes Nelson.
Nelson sings ahead and behind the beat, and Powers matches his musical skills. This is an absolutely
stunning album, and hardly anyone knows it exists.

Spirit Willie Nelson
Price $ 14.99
As with Willie Nelson's '70s Atlantic breakthroughs, the self-written and self-produced collection is
something of a concept album, though its not driven by as strong a narrative as Phases & Stages and
Red-Headed Stranger. This is simple declarative account of a man abandoned by the great love of his
life. He reflects upon his loss, expresses his fears and desires, and searches the heavens for solace.
He finds some and gives thanks. The band (Nelson backed by fiddle, piano, and second guitar) plays a
wistful waltz and life goes on, though the end is in sight. The Willie of Red-Headed Stranger was wild
and dangerous when he was hurt; the Willie of Spirit is reflective and contrite. Still, Spirit ranks with
Red-Headed Stranger, one of the landmarks in modern country music history. --Steven Stolder

Stardust Willie Nelson
Price $ 11.49
Willie Nelson has never been one to do the safe or expected, and this album of pop standards from the '30s and '40s is said to be one of the better albums of Willie's career.
Willie's vocals on "Georgia on My Mind" and "Moonlight in Vermont" are filled with a dignified and slightly jazzy country soul.

Two good friends put together some tracks to remember them by.

Take It To The Limit Willie Nelson
Price $ 9.97
This is a pleasure to hear ... from beginning to end. My only complaint is that it's not twice as long (only
34 min.). But it belongs in every fan's collection.

Teatro Willie Nelson
Price $ 14.99
The first words from Willie Nelson's lips, "The sun is filled with ice and gives no warmth at all / the sky
was never blue," warn the listener something is happening here. In a converted Mexican movie theater,
producer Daniel Lanois surrounds the 65-year-old Nelson with the most startling and assured musical
vision of his career: lush, rippling guitars, and swelling, splashing drum tracks, doubled and tripled over,
sometimes in a Latin mood. Lanois allows Nelson freedom to solo in and around his sonic dreamwork,
and with the presence of longtime fellow travelers Mickey Raphael, Emmylou Harris, and sister Bobbie,
the record clearly smacks of Nelson's style and lyrical vision. The original material is decades old, but
little known, and generally as haunting as Lanois's arrangements. (Only one song should have remained
in the vaults: the emotionally-curdled "I Just Can't Let You Say Good-Bye.") So much could have gone
wrong on this pairing. It's a thrill to hear how much truly goes right. --Roy Francis Kasten

The Essential Willie Nelson Willie Nelson
Price $ 14.49
Nelson recorded 11 albums for RCA between 1964 and 1971, but he has always discounted those
recordings as victims of a Nashville industry that didn't understand what he was trying to do. Colin
Escott, who put together this 1995 anthology, argues in the CD booklet that Nelson has oversimplified
this period of his career. Sure, there were miscalculations as producer Chet Atkins tried to make
Nelson's quirky vocal phrasing palatable to the country radio of the day, but there were also a fair
number of artistic triumphs.

The Seashores Of Old Mexico with Merle Haggard Willie Nelson
Price $ 9.97
wo of country's finest veteran stars come together once again on this little known album . The opening
and title track is a smouldering ballad where Willie Nelson's resonant vocal tones are as dependable as
always and he is ably complemented by Merle Haggard . This really sets the tone for a slow , dreamy,
relaxing and sometime romantic album .
